On Wednesday 26th March Jordans Solicitors will be hosting the second ArtWalk of the year and, as with every ArtWalk, members of the public will be welcomed into the boardroom where the artist is on hand to discuss their work. However, unlike previous ArtWalks, we will be joined by two artists — one in our boardroom and the other displaying work in the reception of our King Street Wakefield office.
This time we will be joined by artist Carol Hanson who is working with ourselves and the Civic Society, who are long standing ArtWalk venues, and new venue the Well Women Centre on a one-off not to be missed joint project that encompasses all three King Street buildings.
A pop-up ‘cartoon business’ inspired by the memories and stories associated with King Street’s heritage will be erected in the ground floor windows and reception area of our stunning listed building for the night of the ArtWalk only. The art will take you on a trip down memory lane telling you the tale of King Street and the union of the venues.
Jordans will have a Femme Fatale paper installation on a chaise longue in celebration of the strong and resourceful Yorkshire woman (and in homage to the sultry cinema sirens of the Art Deco era). It will also have a respectful nod to the building’s traditional textile connections.
Inside our office local artist Loretta Cusworth will be on hand to discuss her work on display in our boardroom. Loretta enjoys texture and uses all methods from pastel, encaustic art, mono printing, water colour, acrylic, collage and charcoal through to oils. Her work varies from abstract to conventional subjects including the human form.
Work on display includes the pieces ‘Fantasie’, ‘It’s all about time’, Mono print-collage’ and ‘Music collage’. The collage and mono prints reference time, movement and colour which guide the mind of the viewer into their own vision of what is seen.
Loretta’s current work involves the use of ideas or images observed and taken from everyday life, as expressed through emotions and associated stressfull ramifications prevalent in today’s society.Research and experimentation has been made within her work with various mediums.
The art in the boardroom by Loretta Cusworth will be on display until the next ArtWalk, which will be held on 28th May 2014 5pm-8pm. If you would like to view the art please call our office on 01924 387110 to make sure the boardroom is available. Our 18 King Street Wakefield office is open Monday — Friday 9am — 5pm. The art by Carol Hanson will be displayed on the night of the ArtWalk only. The ArtWalk night is a free event and open to all members of the public.
