The second round of the qualifying heats of the 4th annual Wakefield Schools and Sixth Form Debating Competition were held in our Wakefield office on Tuesday 18th November.

The first debate saw Silcoates School team 2 proposing and Ossett Sixth Form Academy team 2 opposing the motion ‘This house believes the UK should not pay ransoms to terrorists.’

The second deabte saw Wakefield Girls High School proposing and Queen Elizabeth Grammar School team 1 opposing the motion ‘This house believes that experimental drugs should be used for the treatment of Ebola.’

WGHS: Jennifer Selim and Summer Abbasi

QEGS: Roshan Das and Ankur Desai

The final debate saw Queen Elizabeth Grammar School team 2 proposing and Silcoates School team 1 opposing the motion ‘This house believes Russell Brand is a revoluntionary and not a self publicist.’

Silcoates: Jacob Beaumont and Oliver Race

We would like to congratulate both Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and Silcoates School teams on scoring the highest points and moving on to the semi-final that will be held in February.

We would also like to thank all the students who entered and everyone who came along to show their support.
