Operation Daybreak, one of the investigations into historic child abuse in Nottingham, has led to the arrest of a 62 year old paedophile.

Operation Daybreak which began in 2011, is conducting a large scale investigation in relation to historic child sex abuse at care homes and other institutions in the Nottinghamshire area.

Ivan John Bethell of Wembley was arrested by Operation Daybreak police officers for child sex offences in the 1980s. The offences were said not to have occurred in children’s homes.

Bethell, who initially denied the charges, eventually pleaded guilty to sexual offences against a young girl who was aged under 14 years at the time the offences took place. Nottinghamshire Police are anticipating a significant custodial sentence.

It is encouraging to see that Operation Daybreak, like countless other investigations into historic abuse up and down the country, has been assisted by the courageous victims who have decided to come forward about the abuse they suffered, and as a result has been successful in its first conviction.

Our specialist team of abuse lawyers understand how difficult it is for victims to come forward, having tried to block out the painful memories for so many years, and commend the victims that are fighting for justice.
