Colin Davis, 74, from Southampton has been charged with 36 counts of indecent assault against 9 boys at the Salerno Road Children’s Home.

A large-scale investigation carried out by Hampshire Police into historic child sexual exploitation has uncovered enough evidence to charge former children’s home manager Davis with 36 counts of indecent assault in the 1970s and 1980s.

The investigation, known as Operation Marmion, was launched by Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Hayes in order to tackle the growing concern regarding historic child abuse in homes, schools and other establishments up and down the country.

A ‘significant’ investigation was carried out by the police into all available evidence before Davis was charged. He has now been released on police bail until 7 January 2016, when he is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates Court to provide his plea.

Whilst Hampshire Police have made clear that these charges do not relate to any other children’s homes or other establishments, Operation Marmion is ongoing.
