Hampshire Police are investigating a serious complaint of abuse in relation to their ongoing inquiry about alleged abuse of youth players in football. A man is being questioned by the Police in relation to alleged abuse suffered at Southampton Football club in the 1980’s.

The man who is 64 years old cannot be named. Hampshire Police have made the following statement, “As part of Hampshire Constabulary’s investigation into allegations of non recent child abuse within the football community, a 64 years old man from Southampton has been interviewed under caution in a police custody suite.”

Hampshire Police have confirmed that this is an “active, significant and complex investigation.” They encourage victims of such abuse to contact detectives from their Operation Marmion Team on 101 or call the NSPCC hotline 0800 023 2642.
