Cy Chadwick who played Nick Bates in the soap for more than a decade appeared in court today to deny indecently assaulting a young boy in the 1980s. The former Emmerdale star, 44, was still in the soap when the abuse was alleged to have taken place at the boys parents home.

Chadwick, from Leeds, has been accused of attacking a boy under 14 between September 1985 and September 1988 before leaving the show in the 1990s to work in TV production.

At Leeds Magistrates Court he confirmed his date of birth and address before giving a plea of not guilty during a short hearing. Due to the nature of the alleged crime a decision was made to move his case to Leeds Crown Court. Chadwick was released on bail to appear there later this month.
