Held at our Wakefield King Street office on Tuesday 4th February teams from Ackworth School, Ossett Sixth Form Academy, Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and Silcoates School competed in the semi-final round of the third annual Jordans Solicitors Wakefield Schools and Sixth Form Debating Competition.

Commencing at 5pm the motions debated were ‘This house would boycott the Olympic Games in protest against Russia’s human rights record’, ‘This house supports the proposed housing benefit cuts for the under 25’s’ and ‘This house believes public art is a waste of taxpayers money’.

As with the English Speaking Union rules the debate is based on the four teams with the highest scores progressed to the final, which will be held on Tuesday 4th March, 5pm.

The teams who progressed to the final are Ackworth School, Silcoates School and teams one and two from Queen Elizabeth Grammar School.

We would like to thank ESU judge Adam Hawksbee, teachers and especially the pupils who participated.
