This week Alistair Wood has joined us from Silcoates School for his sixth form work experience placement. During his time here he joined our commercial team to shadow partner and head of employment law, Debbie Mactaggart. We would like to thank him for his enthusiasm and hard-work and wish him good luck in the future.
Speaking of his time at the firm Alistair said; “From 23-27 June, I had the pleasure of spending a week on work experience with Debbie MacTaggart at Jordans Solicitors. As a Sixth Form Student, I hoped the week would give me an indication as to whether I wanted to follow my interest of studying law at University and subsequently pursuing it as a career.
The most interesting thing for me to see was the application of law in practice, seeing how it applied to the individual circumstances of a client’s situation and how the law applied to them. Debbie’s area is employment law, quite different from criminal law, my initial interest, but much more stimulating than I would have previously anticipated.
I have also had the chance to develop an insight in to the process of a legal case and how it develops, something which I was keen to find out about to form my decision regarding law as a prospective career. Having access to files from real cases and meeting Debbie’s clients has been an engaging, authentic way of experiencing and understanding how law works in practice, and I must say that it has reinforced my interest and desire to pursue law as a career, having experienced it first-hand.
I would like to finish by thanking Debbie for giving me the chance to undertake work experience with her, making a real effort to ensure I was able to engage fully in varying aspects of her profession. I would also like to thank the staff at Jordans Solicitors for ensuring that I felt welcome and had an experience which was both enjoyable and beneficial.”
