Three former staff members of Thorp Arch Grange Approved School in Leeds have been charged with a number of offences relating to historic child abuse at the school.
It has been reported that Roy Leonard Allen has been charged with 17 offences, including 14 counts of indecent assault and 2 of buggery. Anthony Gordon Poles has been charged with 5 offences including indecent assault, and Mark Walker Wyllie has been charged with indecent assault.
The men are due to appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on 2 October 2015.
The charges are a result of the ongoing Operation Polymer, an investigation being run by West Yorkshire Police into child abuse at several schools and children’s homes in the Leeds area, including Shadwell, Whinmoor, Eastmoor and Thorp Arch Grange. These most recent charges come after 3 other former staff members were charged and appeared in court earlier this year.
Molly Frost, a solicitor at Jordans Solicitors, who represent over 60 Claimants in civil claims relating to abuse several homes run by Leeds City Council, said “We are very pleased as are many of our clients that the police have taken the complaints of abuse at Thorp Arch Grange seriously.
“It is difficult for these individuals, many of whom are now adults with young children of their own to take this step and confide in the police, especially when many of them have had negative experiences with police and others in positions of authority in the past.”
