Dame Goddard today opens an independent inquiry into historical child sexual abuse in England and Wales.
The inquiry, Truth Project will consider how public bodies investigate child abuse claims.
The opening of the York Office is the beginning of the Inquiry’s Truth Project in the North East. The aim of the inquiry is to gain more understanding of the pattern of abuse by speaking to victims and survivors. Investigations into child abuse by the Roman Catholic and Anglican Churches has already begun in Liverpool and Manchester.
The project will ensure privacy for victims and specialist support will be given to anyone who participates in the inquiry.
Dame Goddard has said, “ I am grateful to the time taken by everyone to meet with me and other members of the inquiry and I want to emphasise that we are committed to delivering a strong regional presence, here in the North East and across England and Wales.”
