On the 20th September, it was revealed to the world that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who have become a tabloid favourite often being dubbed ‘Brangelina’, had decided to divorce after 12 years together. In Hollywood, that’s practically a life time. The world has been watching the couple since the start of their relationship, due to Pitt’s supposed affair with Jolie on then wife, Friends actress, Jennifer Aniston.
It was reported that Jolie filed for divorce on the 15th September, a mere 5 days before the world were invited in, citing irreconcilable differences – echoing Aniston’s petition to dissolve their marriage eleven years prior. However, the Jolie-Pitt divorce will prove to be much more complicated with the involvement of their six children – three of which are adopted.
Currently, the press are speculating the reason as to why Jolie and Pitt are separating, ranging from Pitt cheating with his co-star Marion Cotillard, to cheating with popular musician Selena Gomez, being still in love with ex Jennifer Aniston and a heavy drunk and drink problem that Jolie found tiresome to deal with. Whilst we may never know the real reason, and chances are it will remain in the cabinet filed ‘Hollywood top secret’, Jolie’s lawyer states that the divorce is simply ‘for the health of the family’.
Divorce is the second most stressful event an individual can ever go through, and ensuring that you have a solid support network is vital. Your chosen solicitor should also be a part of that support network, ensuring that yours and any effected children’s wellbeing is at the top of the agenda in the proceedings.
