Four children have commenced legal proceedings against Swansea Council claiming that the Council did not protect them against their abusive parents. They are seeking compensation in the region of £200,000.00.

Court papers  detailing allegations against Swansea Council were lodged at the Royal Courts of Justice in December 2016 by the children’s Official Solicitor. It is alleged that one mother failed to take her child to hospital even though the child was suffering from breathing difficulties, one child witnessed their parent snorting cocaine and another child was still wearing nappies at the age of seven.

It is claimed that the Council should have done more “to protect the youngsters from the physical and emotional abuse and neglect they were subject to in the family home.” It is also stated in the Court papers that “the parents had been known to social workers for quite some time.”
