John Foreman, 67, former house parent at Street Lane children’s home has been  sentenced to a total of 21 years and 8 months by Leeds Crown Court following his conviction for abusing young children whilst working a the local authority run home in Roundhay, Leeds more than 40 years ago.

Foreman’s most serious offence was the rape of an eleven year old child. Foreman threatened to send the victim to a Youth Detention Centre if he told anyone about the incident. The youngest victim was aged nine. The Court heard how Foreman abused his victims whilst they were asleep or in his car.

Foreman was found guilty of serious sexual offences which would be classed as rape under the present day criminal law. He also pleaded guilty to 14 offences of indecent assault.

Recorder Tahir Khan QC commented that Foreman was “a committed and determined paedophile” and described the effect on the 11 year old victim by stating “His life has been irrecoverably changed by the abuse you perpetrated against him. This was extreme abuse of a vulnerable boy by a man in gross breach of trust.”
