John Marshall, 69, of Elmsford Grove, Longbenton, North Tyneside, has been charged with 8 offences of indecent assault.

The offences are alleged to have been committed between 1980 and 1982. Marshall will appear at North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on 14 June.

Operation Tide was launched by Northumbria Police in December last year. This was due to several high profile cases involving ex- footballers waiving their anonymity to speak out.

The investigation originally started with focusing just on Newcastle United, but has since been broadened due to allegations involving other sports.

Dozens have victims have come forward since the launch of Operation Tide. 37 victims have been identified, with naming 10 possible suspects and involving 11 different clubs. Marshall is the second person to be charged as part of Operation Tide.
