John Marshall, 69, of Longbenton, North Tyneside, has appeared in North Tyneside Court. Marshall was a former football coach and based at Wallsend Boys’ Club.

John Marshall faces eight charges of indecent assault against three boys between 1980 and 1985.

Chair of the bench, Susan Salam, directed that the allegations were too serious to be heard by Magistrates and sent the case to the Crown Court.

Marshall denied all the charges and was granted unconditional bail. He is due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on 12 July 2017.

Marshall’s arrest came as part of Operation Tide. Operation Tide is an ongoing investigation by Northumbria Police into allegations of abuse suffered at football clubs in the North East. He is the second person to be charged as part of Northumbria Police’s Operation Tide.
