Discrimination, harassment and victimisation should have no role at work. With this in mind during November 2017 we are offering employers a free Equal Opportunities Policy.
A good Equal Opportunities Policy can set a clear minimum standard of behaviour to let people know where they stand.
The policy can cover employees, officers, workers, agency workers, contractors, volunteers and job applicants. It can set out a simple explanation of direct discrimination, indirect discrimination, harassment, victimisation and disability discrimination.
Importantly for employers who are vicariously liable for harassment committed by their employees in the course of employment, a good Equal Opportunities Policy combined with publicity, training and proper action in the event of a breach can help establish a defence to a claim against harassment.
