Former RTE television producer, Kieran Creaven has pleaded guilty to two child sexual abuse offences. He will be sentenced at the Leeds Crown Court today.
Creaven a 55 year old married man has been a bail since November 2017. He was a sports producer for RTE. He covered the Olympic Games, European Football Championships and worked as an editor for RTE’s racing coverage. He was dismissed from his post when he pleaded guilty to the offences.
The offences took place between July 2017 and November 2017. Creaven was detained by a group called, “Predator Exposure.” This group pretended that they were a 13 year old child and communicated with him online. Creaven has admitted to attempting to meet and communicate with a 13 year old after grooming and attempting to incite a girl to engage in sexual activity.
UK Legislation states that these offences can be committed against a person under the age of 18 years or a person depicting to be a child. Therefore, even though Creaven was not in contact with a child, he could be prosecuted because he believed he was.
Creaven has also lived in Ireland and his online activities are being investigated by the Gardaí. They are trying to establish whether he committed any offences whilst he lived in Ireland and if he did, whether any victims can be traced. Officers are liaising with the West Yorkshire Police.
The Judge has told Creaven that his early guilty pleas will be taken into consideration when considering his sentence. He is on the sex offenders register in Ireland as a result of this conviction.
