Ex youth worker Michael Smith was jailed in 2014 for sexual offences against children. He was a youth worker for the council between 2001 and 2012 and was dismissed for gross misconduct and disciplined for inappropriate behaviour with children.
An inquiry is to take place into why in 2010 Pembrokeshire council almost approved child abuser, Michael Smith to become a foster carer despite concerns over his behaviour. The inquiry was due to begin in June 2017, but was delayed. Pembrokeshire council have now confirmed that an independent chairman will be appointed in June to investigate the matter, and why his line manager failed to highlight the concerns relating to his employment.
Smith was jailed for six years in 2014 after admitting “sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13, inciting the child to engage in sexual activity and taking indecent photographs of the child.” He also admitted possessing 1,136 indecent images of children.
