A former foster carer has been convicted of sexual offences at the Bristol Crown Court. He was sentenced to prison for 17 ½ years with a years extended licence. He was also made the subject of an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order designed to prevent him from re-offending.
Stephen Banks 61, denied the allegations against him. He was found guilty of abusing a child in his care and another girl, when they were both under the age of 16 years. He was convicted of 3 sexual assaults against 1 girl together with showing her adult pornography and 2 sexual assaults against the 2nd girl. Photographs were also found in his possession of a 3rd child aged between 3 and 4 years being abused.
One of the complainants made a statement to the Court in which she detailed that;
“she couldn’t remember feeling happy when she was young, and suffered from rages and anxiety without initially realizing the reason was abuse at Banks’ hands.”
The Court heard that;
“Banks got one girl to touch his private parts, touched her intimately and showed her adult pornography. He also touched a second girl intimately over her clothing and retained a photo of her backside.”
The Recorder of Bristol His Honour Judge Peter Blair QC said:
“You messed with their bodies and you messed with their heads. If you had pleaded guilty you would have received a substantial discount. You decided to take your chance, taking the coward’s course and challenging the truth of what they said. All of the time it was you who was a liar. They spoke of your unpleasant treatment of them. You messed with their bodies and you messed with their heads.”
