A 60 year old member of Sunderland Academy has been arrested on suspicion of sexually grooming an underage boy.
Peter Howey was a former teacher at Sunderland Academy. He was also a part-time driver and medical support staff at the academy. Peter Howey was arrested following suspicion that he was meeting a boy under the age of 16. The Academy reported the suspected sexual grooming to the police and has also suspended Peter Howey from the club. He has since been released by the police whilst investigations are underway.
A spokesman for the League One club said:
“We were made aware of allegations pertaining to a member of staff. We reported the matter to Northumbria Police immediately and the individual in question was suspended. Until such time as the police investigation has concluded, the club is unable to make further comment.”
