Christopher Pollard 69, has been charged with 11 historical counts of indecent assault whilst he was a Spanish Teacher at Taunton School in the late 1970’s.

Taunton Crown Court has heard that Pollard, “shared alcohol and sexual banter with students.” There was evidence that “he took a 14 year old boy on pub and theatre trips before assaulting him in a car.”

Prosecutor Mary McCarthy said in her opening speech, “that he had a room at the school that served as a type of informal accommodation, but he would also invite pupils and share alcohol with them.”
Jurors also heard that “Pollard was generous and would often pay of drinks and meals out with boys to create opportunities for sexual abuse to occur.”

The Court was told that a former pupil was so “impacted “by the abuse that he returned to the School whilst he was at University and told the Deputy Head about the abuse. He was assured that Pollard would not continue to work with children. The Police were informed of the allegations in 2016.

The trial continues.
