Gary Dobbie, 67 a former teacher and school chaplain has been sentenced and jailed to 12 years for historic sex abuse of nine pupils. He was convicted last month at Hove Crown Court of offences involving a boy who was at the time aged between 13 and 17 years. Having already previously been convicted last June of offences against 8 other boys aged 12 and 19 years.
Dobbie, now of Albi, France, carried out the assaults while at Christ’s Hospital School, Horsham, West Sussex and will be a registered sex offender for life. He is the fifth ex-teacher convicted over complaints spanning 30 years by 22 ex-pupils.
Detective Sergeant Rebecca Wilde of the Sussex Police Complex Abuse Unit said:
“Dobbie preyed on the vulnerabilities of his victims for his own sexual gratification and further added this has been a very complex and sensitive investigation in which the victims of Dobbie showed real courage to speak up and report both to Christ’s Hospital School and the police”
