Former Manchester Policeman Philip Thompson Jailed For Grooming
Former Greater Manchester Policeman, Philip Thompson 63, was jailed for three and a half years for attempting to entice a child to meet him following grooming, attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, attempting to engage in sexual activity and attempting to entice a child to watch sexual activity.
Thompson sent explicit images to paedophile hunters, from a group called Justice4Kids, posing as a 13 year old girl called “Natalie”.
He admitted that he liked to touch girls and he encouraged her to touch her breasts.
He said, “Just don’t tell anyone our secret then we can meet as often as we want”.
She replied, “OK, will I get in trouble if I do?”.
He said “No, but I would” and said it was illegal when the child asked why.
He then arranged to meet her near a Morrisons Supermarket in Heywood and two paedophile hunters went to meet him but he did not show up for the meeting.
He was later confronted by the paedophile hunters at his home in Royton, near Oldham, Greater Manchester.
Thompson was then detained in a citizen’s arrest while they waited for the police to arrive, which was streamed live on Facebook.
It was later confirmed that the police had already been investigating Thompson in a similar operation through the Kik and IB messaging services.
Police officers posed as a 13 year old girl, named “Charlie” or “Charl” in the IB chat room.
The language quickly became sexual and he made it clear that he wished to meet the girl.
He asked for pictures of her and said he would like to meet her for sex.
Sentencing Judge Angela Neild told Thompson:
“The fact that these were not real children does not change the intent, there are real 13-year-olds who are accessing the internet who are vulnerable to people like you”.
Thompson was jailed for three and a half years at Minsull Street Crown Court in Manchester.
He was also made the subject of a 10 year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and has to sign the Sex Offenders register for life.
