Uplands Children’s Home was a home for both young boys and girls located in Bromsgrove. The home opened in 1967 as a temporary assessment centre, it became a community home in 1981 with on-site education, and eventually closed in June 2010.
The home has been subject to an investigation by West Mercia Police, which resulted in the conviction in 2003 of Brian Gillam, former manager of Uplands, for numerous counts of rape and indecent assault against young girls. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison. There have been further complaints by both boys and girls that were at Uplands about both Brian Gillam and other staff.
