Case Study - Abuse at a Detention Centre

Jane Matthews represented a client who was sentenced to a period of 3 months at a detention centre. During his period of detention, he was physical and sexually assaulted by the officers who worked there. He suffered slaps from the officers for failing to address them as “Sir” and was hit with a wet towel whilst in the shower. He was also made to run the perimeter fence and parade outside in his shorts and t-shirt.
Our client also suffered severe sexual abuse by one of the officers. As a result, our client suffered psychological injuries and dental injuries arising from a fear of anything being placed in his mouth due to the nature of the abuse he suffered.
Medical evidence was obtained and a negotiated settlement was reached for our client to the value of £52,500.
Our client said: “I have just been through a very traumatic time and the only thing that made it bearable was the solicitor had, Jane Mathew's. This lady treated me with respect and kept me informed about everything. If I ever need a solicitor, I would want Jane Matthews’ to represent me. Brilliant and efficient, thanks for all your help.”
