What are child care proceedings?
Child care proceedings are when social services request a legal order from the court for the protection of your children. This aims to place them into a safe placement either with family members or in foster care.
The process starts when a social worker sends papers to the court explaining their reasons for seeking to place a child in foster care. Parents also receive a copy of these papers, at which point it’s vital you contact our child care solicitors to plan your next steps.
There will then be an initial hearing in the family court. At this hearing, a decision will be made regarding whether an interim care or supervision order is necessary. This covers where your child will live until the final hearing and what level of contact you can have with them throughout.
