Case Study – Claim against Ministry of Defence

Jordans Solicitors successfully conducted a claim on behalf of a submariner who suffered physical assaults and harassment by multiple employees of the Royal Navy. The claim was correctly and successfully presented as a breach of the Protection from Harassment 1997 Act claim.
The case was litigated and settlement was secured for the client in the sum of £285,000. It was necessary to anonymise the Court papers to avoid media interest in the claim.
Prior to instructing Jordans the Claimant had spent 18 months raising complaints with the Ministry of Defence.
Our client said: “Due to unacceptable behaviours during my time serving in the UK Military, to say I left on bad terms was an understatement! I found myself in a very difficult position where I was injured from my time in service and as a result of my injuries - unemployable. I knew that I had been wronged by the Armed Forces, but taking the MOD to court for their 'employer failings' is a daunting and very expensive task!
Fortunately for me, I happened across Jordans Solicitors, who appointed Mark Crompton to my case. Mark listened, understood and constructed a very solid case on my behalf, to which the Defendant had no other option but to offer an out of court settlement. I now feel that the right thing has happened by me and I now have a clean slate from which I can pursue my new life in the free world of 'civvy street'! None of which would have been possible without the help and exemplary management of my case by Mark Crompton at Jordans.”
