Church of England Redress Scheme: Update

The Church of England has approved a Redress Scheme for survivors of Church-related abuse.
The Redress Scheme is not yet open, but it is expected to be open in the latter part of 2026.
All the necessary preparation work needs to have been completed by both the Church and the Scheme Administrator before it can launch.
To date the Church of England has only released draft measure and rules and we are waiting for a framework and guide.
The scheme is intended to compensate the survivors of church related abuse which includes sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional, psychological and spiritual abuse, neglect and financial abuse.
An apology from the institution where the abuse took place will be provided.
Individual awards are between £5000 to £660,000. If compensation by the church has previously been paid by the Church, the award may be adjusted under the scheme. The compensation will include loss of earnings, treatment and aggravated damages.
The scheme is expected to be open for a period of 5 years.
There is no limitation date within the scheme and it is expected that applicants will be provided with an application form to use to submit all relevant details to the administrator of the scheme.
Prospective applicants can register their interest by visiting the website below. Once the scheme is open and operating, survivors will be able to apply at this same dedicated website:
