Crime and Policing Act 2026

The Crime and Policing Bill received Royal Assent on the 29th April 2026.
For Solicitors who act for survivors of sexual abuse, the most important change is the removal of the limitation period of child sexual abuse claims, a development which we have been campaigning for, for years.
The change follows the recommendation of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) and consultations made by survivors, charities and Solicitors evidencing that a significant number of claims were being rejected because not all survivors are able to disclose the sexual abuse they suffered within such strict time limits.
The Act also introduces a mandatory reporting duty for individuals in regulated activities with children in England.
We discuss the effect of the Act in our Webinar on the 4th June 2026. Register for the webinar here.
