Fourth Ex-Police Officer arrested over child abuse

An update was given by The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) to the National Crime Agency’s (NCA) investigation following allegations of child sexual abuse by former officers in South Yorkshire.
It was reported in July 2025 that 5 women who were exploited by grooming gangs as children were also abused by police officers in the town.
One woman alleges at the age of 12 years old she was raped and threaten by a serving police officer in a marked car. The officer also threatened the woman by saying he would ‘hand her back to the gang’ if she didn’t comply to his demands.
A former police officer in his 60s was arrested in June 2026 by the National Crime Agency on suspicion of non-recent child sexual abuse offences. He was taken into custody and released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
Since December 2024 three other former police officers have also been arrested on suspicion of historical sexual offences, including attempted rape, indecent assault and misconduct in a public office.
None have been charged.
