Over 100 Victims of Abuse by Harrods’ Mohamed Al Fayed

The BBC reported this week that more than 100 victims have come forward to claim compensation through a redress scheme launched by Harrods, following disturbing revelations of sexual abuse by its former owner, Mohamed Al Fayed.
The redress scheme was created in response to numerous testimonies accusing Al Fayed of rape, sexual assault and harassment during his tenure.
The scheme opened on 31st March 2025 and will close on 31st March 2026.
Depending on factors such as the severity of abuse, work impact and whether they undergo psychiatric assessment, applicants to the scheme can receive up to £385,000 in compensation, plus reimbursement for past treatment costs.
In addition, survivors of abuse by Al Fayed who worked for his private airline; Fayair (Jersey) Co Ltd, or those with a sufficiently close connection to him or his businesses, will also be eligible to apply to the scheme.
Survivors can choose from different application paths, depending on their willingness to undergo medical assessments.
To prioritise survivor dignity and to ensure sensitivity under the scheme, survivors are not required to provide oral evidence, with claims being considered on documentary evidence. All eligible claimants are also offered an apology either in person or via video from a senior Harrods’ representative.
In a significant legal move and with a view to preserving Al Fayed’s estate assets for potential claimants, Harrods has also asked the High Court to replace the executors of Al Fayed’s estate with professional executors, citing a lack of progress in its administration.
The redress scheme marks a long-overdue step toward accountability and healing for survivors of abuse by Mohamed Al Fayed.
Survivors of abuse by Mohamed Al Fayed are urged to come forward prior to the 31st March 2026 deadline.
