Childhood sexual abuse has urged other victims to come forward

An article published on the Nottinghamshire Police website claims a survivor of childhood sexual abuse has urged other victims to come forward and report what happened to them – no matter how long ago the abuse occurred.
“Even if things happened many years ago and no physical evidence exits; this case is proof that these cases can come to court and offenders can be held accountable for what they have done”.
The victim was abused by an older relative from the age of six and like many victims of childhood sexual abuse – believed that what was happening to him was normal.
In reality, he was being subjected to very serious and repeated sexual assaults by an adult.
After many years of therapy to address the trauma cause by the abuse, he finally found the strength to tell his story to the Police.
After been referred to an independent charity, he worked with an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA), who supported him in filing a report with Greater Manchester Police.
His abuser stood trial at Nottingham Crown Court and was found guilty of rape and sexual assault. He is now serving a 12-year prison sentence.
The victim is now urging other survivors of non-recent abuse to come forward.
