Further suspects arrested in relation to Operation Sherwood

As the police investigations into child grooming and sexual exploitations intensify, there are more arrests being made.
On the 23rd of September 2025, officers executed five warrants and arrested five men in Oldham. All were aged between 38 and 51 and were arrested on suspicion of rape of a child. This now totals to 21 people who have now been arrested as part of Operation Sherwood.
The men were arrested following two survivors disclosing the offences which had taken place between 2011 and 2014 in Oldham.
The suspects currently remain in custody for questioning.
Detective Superintendent Alan Clitherow, head of GMP’s child sexual exploitation Major Investigation Team has said ‘our investigations into non recent child sexual exploitation are intensifying across Greater Manchester and these latest arrests and results reflect the relentless work of our officers.
These are complex and wide-ranging investigations and our specialist’s investigative team are working tirelessly to build robust case files to put child abusers behind bars.’
He continues to say how they are determined to ensure justice for survivors and have encouraged anyone who has experienced abuse or knows someone who has, to come forward assuring that support is available and their voice will be heard.
