Twenty people jailed for a combined 277 years after major investigation into sexual abuse in Kirklees

Decades ago, a number of sexual offences were committed against 3 girls in the area of Dewsbury and Batley.

Twenty men from Dewsbury and surrounding areas attended Leeds Crown Court in July 2023, with a total of six sperate trials taking place, the last of which concluded in September 2024. Final sentencing took place in 2025 but in order to safeguard the fairness and integrity of the court process, reporting restrictions were imposed on the cases, and it has not been possible until now, to release details of those sentenced.

Combined, the perpetrators have been jailed for 277 years.

DCI Rob Stevens of Kirklees District Police said “This has been a major investigation into truly appalling sexual abuse of vulnerable girls in Kirklees by a large number of sexual predators…The very significant jail terms given to some of these men speak volumes about their depravity and the abuse meted out to victims in this case.”

Cases like these highlight the importance of survivors of sexual abuse coming forward to begin the process of bringing their perpetrator to justice. There are many organisations, charities and support groups who can offer assistance and stand by you whilst you begin the reporting process.
