How to change Solicitors when in the process of making a Will

There are many reasons why you may want to change solicitors during the process of legal matters and this can apply when you are in the process of making a Will. An example for wanting to move may be that the terms under your agreed retainer with the firm are not being fulfilled or the firm has ceased trading.
Depending on the reason for wanting to move to an alternative firm of solicitors, and if you have already signed a retainer with the previous firm, outstanding fees may need to be settled and there may be additional costs for instructing a new solicitor.
It is important to identify a trusted firm of solicitors that you wish to take over your matter. If that firm is happy to take your case on, you will enter into an agreement with them. They will usually request that you sign a form that allows them to access your file from your previously instructed firm. This will involve having sight of your documents and any previous Wills.
The new firm will then handle the rest and take over your case.
If your Will has been executed at a previous firm and you wish for this to be stored elsewhere, you can choose a new firm of solicitors to take over the storage of your Will. If you wish to amend an existing Will or create a new one, your new firm will be able to assist with drafting a new Will or preparing a Codicil.
