Skircoat Lodge Observation and Assessment Centre in Halifax West Yorkshire was opened by Calderdale Council in 1976 to assess vulnerable children. It closed in 1995.

The police launched an investigation in 2018 into child sexual abuse which occurred at Skircoat Lodge Children’s Home between 1970 and 1995.

The criminal trial starts today in the Bradford Cown Court.

Jordans Solicitors are acting on behalf of vulnerable children and young adults whom it is alleged were sexually abused in assessment centres and children’s homes, including Skircoat Lodge.

We are very pleased that after a lengthy wait the survivors of sexual abuse at the home will be able to give their evidence in court and hope that it will bring them some closure. They have shown incredible bravery and enormous strength in coming forward, reporting the sexual abuse to the police and giving evidence at the trial.
