Edward Stanton, a former children’s home manager, has again been convicted of non-recent child sex abuse.

In 1996, he was convicted on 5 charges of buggery, 1 charge of attempted buggery, 4 charges of indecent assault on a male and a charge of indecent assault in the Liverpool Crown Court. The offences occurred between 1976 and 1985 at St Vincent’s Community Home in Formby. The boys were aged 9 to 13. He was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment.

St Vincent’s was run by a charity the Nugent Care Society and was supposed to care for troubled boys and provide them with an education. The home featured in the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA).

Alan Langshaw who had been Officer in Charge and then Deputy Principal at St Vincents was convicted in 1994 of sexual offences against boys between 1977 and 1994 at Greystone Heath, St Vincent’s and Halton College.

In 2013 and 2016, Stanton was imprisoned for the possession of indecent images of children. In 2017 he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 13 year old boy in the early 1980’s. In 2021, he was again convicted of abusing two other boys at St Vincent’s Community Home.

He was recently convicted in May 2025 of 11 offences at three children’s homes in Lanarkshire between 1985 and 1994 including rape and indecent assaults. The youngest child is reported to have been aged 6. He has now been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
