Prohibition order made against Notre Dame teacher

A prohibition order has been made against a former teacher at Notre Dame High School in Sheffield by a professional conduct panel following a hearing on 17 and 18 June 2025. The ban will apply to any school, sixth form college, youth accommodation or children’s home.
It was alleged that in February 2019 the teacher Jason Harrison had touched or attempted to touch a pupil at the school inappropriately and had encouraged her to perform oral sex on him.
It is understood that friends of the pupil reported the incident and the pupil then disclosed the abuse to her mother.
Mr Harrison was arrested on 3 March 2019 and interviewed by the police the next day. He was subsequently acquitted of a criminal offence in August 2021.
He had joined the school in September 2015 and resigned in August 2019. Mr Harrison had denied the allegations but was not present at the hearing and was not represented.
The panel found on the balance of probabilities that the allegations were proven after considering the pupil’s police video interview. They concluded that he had committed sexual misconduct.
The former student told the panel that she had gone through “four years of hell” following the incident. She also told the panel that now she was older she realised that she had been groomed and manipulated by Mr Harrison and had tried to protect the teacher at the time. She said that she was still scared of him and of the risk that she could inadvertently bump into him.
Teachers and other school employees often have a powerful role in children’s lives and build up trust through their close contact with pupils every day. It is then hugely damaging for the child when that trust is abused.
