Brothers found guilty of raping young girls following an investigation by the National Crime Agency
Operation Stovewood commenced in 2014 investigating allegations of child sexual abuse in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013. It is the single largest law enforcement investigation into child abuse and exploitation.
As a firm we have written articles on the operation and highlighted successful prosecutions regularly over the years.
There has of course been a lot of focus in the media over the last couple of weeks about sexual abuse by grooming gangs but a statement by the National Crime Agency on 4 December 2024 received little attention.
They confirmed that two brothers Mark and Robert Evans were convicted on 4 December 2024 of the rape of young girls following a 2 week trial at Sheffield Crown Court.
They had been arrested in 2020 after officers from the National Crime Agency involved in Operation Stovewood investigated allegations by 3 women. They were aged 13 and 14 at the time of the abuse.
The court were told that they spent time around teenage girls. They intimidated them and groomed the young girls. They gave them drugs and alcohol before luring them from safe places to locations where they attacked them. The abuse took place over a 2 year period from 2006.
They are due to be sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on 16 January 2025.

Compensation is a small step towards taking control of your life and getting the justice you deserve.
We understand how difficult it can be for you to talk about the abuse you suffered during your childhood. That’s why our specially trained child abuse solicitors work closely alongside psychologists and barristers to support you both emotionally and legally.
Justice for child abuse survivors should be accessible no matter how long ago it happened. That’s why we fought for a landmark change in the law, which allows an abuse claim to be brought before a court regardless of when it took place.
