Eastwood Park Detention Centre

Compensation Scheme Agreed

Here at Jordans Solicitors, we campaigned for many years for a settlement scheme for former detainees of Eastwood Park Detention Centre for boys.

Our vast experience in this area, together with representing over 100 former detainees, gave us the knowledge and understanding of the impact of what took place at Eastwood Park between 1964 and 1995.

We consulted with the Ministry of Justice over a number of years, which led to the launch of the settlement scheme in January 2025 - being one of only two firms of solicitors nationwide in the consultation.

The Eastwood Park Detention Centre Compensation Scheme was launched on the 14th January 2025 and will run for 12 months until the 14th January 2026.

The scheme will pay compensation to former detainees who were physically abused /assaulted whilst at Eastwood Park.

History of Eastwood Park Detention Centre

HMP Eastwood Park was a junior Detention Centre for boys aged between 14 and 17 from the 1960's until it closed in 1993. The Detention Centre was run by the Home Office, now the Ministry of Justice. There have been numerous allegations of physical, verbal and sexual abuse at this detention centre.

Previous Cases

A former Prison Officer; Patrick Devaney, of County Down in Northern Ireland has been found guilty of misconduct in a public office. The Court heard evidence from 22 former detainees  of the abuse they suffered at the hands of Devaney who was based in the detention centre's gym. Devaney was found guilty of repeatedly assaulting boys aged between 14 to 17 years old in his care where he worked from 1970 until 1983.
