Investigation into historic abuse at Kirklevington Detention Centre

Kirklevington Detention Centre
If you were detained at Kirklevington Detention Centre and experienced physical or sexual abuse, you may be entitled to make a compensation claim.
Whilst nothing can change what has happened in the past, compensation can help you to get the justice you deserve.
Kirklevington was a Detention Centre operated by the Ministry of Justice intended for 14-17 year old boys, where the ‘short sharp shock’ regime was used in the 70’s and 80’s. Sadly, many boys detained there have given evidence of the mistreatment and abuse they suffered at the centre.
'Operation Magnolia' was launched by Cleveland Police in 2014 to investigate evidence of physical and sexual assaults by Officers. So far, the Police have interviewed 818 former detainees and 21 officers as part of their investigation.
Given the severity of the abuse suffered and the large number of boys who were subjected to this treatment, the Ministry of Justice may follow the approach they have taken with former detainees of Medomsley Detention Centre and Eastwood Park Detention Centre and offer compensation to former detainees by way of a settlement scheme.
We would urge anybody affected by abuse at Kirklevington to report these allegations to Cleveland Police, by calling the police 101 service and to contact us as soon as possible.
We are acting for over 260 clients whose claims have already been submitted and registered with the Government Legal Department.
Abuse claims are a specialist area of law and here at Jordans we have a dedicated team of abuse solicitors who are experts in this area. In particular, we have extensive experience of acting for survivors who have suffered abuse whilst detained in detention centres.
As well as campaigning for the Eastwood Park Compensation Scheme, we were also instrumental in the implementation of the Medomsley Detention Centre Settlement Scheme.
National Representation
We have represented and successfully claimed compensation for 100’s of clients nationally through similar redress schemes for individuals that experienced abuse whilst at detention centres. To date, we have claimed compensation for over 200 clients as part of the Eastwood Park scheme.
